“I love my teeth and my smile. The work was done very softly and pleasant, and Dr. Gross and his team really cared and even worked on “odd” hours as I was a bit pushed for time leaving USA for Europe. Thank you Dr. Gross – Thank you Renee and the rest of the team – You are great!”

At SmilePerfect, the prevention of gum disease is our priority. Periodontics is a branch of dentistry devoted to treating gum disease. Why is this important? Our gums support our teeth, and healthy gums prevent tooth loss.
Even if you have beautiful teeth, you could still have gum disease. You may not feel any symptoms, however, until the gum disease is quite advanced. But early detection and a thorough periodontal examination can halt and perhaps even reverse this common condition. That’s one of the many reasons why it is so important to visit your dentist for regular checkups.
SmilePerfect wants you to have the oral care you truly deserve. Each time you visit one of our four South Florida offices, we’ll do a thorough gum checkup and show you how to maintain excellent oral care at home through regular brushing and flossing
Dental Hygiene and Periodontics
If you are already developing early periodontal disease, several treatments options exist:
Scaling and root planing are two very effective methods for treating and controlling gum disease. This procedure is usually done in ‘quadrants’ by visually dividing your mouth into four sections. Scaling removes accumulated plaque and tartar from under the gum line, where brushing and flossing can’t reach. Planing smoothes the surface of the tooth root, to prevent further accumulation. Some people seem to be more prone to developing tough tartar and calculus high up on the gum line, despite their efforts to maintain good oral hygiene. Therefore, some people may find they need this treatment to maintain excellent oral health.
For advanced gum disease, where plaque and tartar have deeply penetrated the gums, surgery may be required. SmilePerfect offers laser gum treatment for less invasive, less painful, and more effective surgical results.
For severe cases of periodontal disease, where bone loss to your jaw has occurred, bone grafts can correct the damage using synthetic or natural material.
Your SmilePerfect dentist may also suggest local delivery of antimicrobials, such as Arestin, to treat and prevent the progression of the disease.
Gum disease can increase risk factors for other health problems. We recommend regular cleanings to keep your gums and teeth healthy. If it’s been a while since you came in for a cleaning, or you suspect you may have periodontal disease, don’t delay.
